Mental Health Presentation For Parents

Those with elementary or high school students are invited to attend a free seminar aimed at helping kids deal with the academic and social pressures of school.

The presentation, titled Changes and Choices: Empowering Youth and Their Families for the Journey Ahead, teaches parents how to identify stressors that adolescents commonly face and teach them resilience.

St. Clair Secondary School Principal Paul Wiersma says things are different for youth today than they were 20 years ago.

"Social media is definitely a factor, we find that for many of our students they are unable to leave that off and work with that 24 hours a day," says Weirsma.

"When we were going to school often we could go home and shut it off for the evening but with social media that's not the case."

Guest speakers will be school board mental health lead Ellie Fraser, and Lambton College psychology professor Charlene Mahon.

The presentation is Thursday, February 18 at 7pm at St. Clair Secondary School. All parents are welcome to attend.
