Three Sarnia residents are facing charges in the production of counterfeit American money.
Police say on January 20, a male suspect allegedly made a purchase with a fake U.S. $20 bill in the 100-block of Exmouth St. and received change back. Two days later, a suspect attempted to make another purchase with a counterfeit bill but was turned away by the employee.
Sarnia police were able to identify the suspect on video after another successful transaction on Monday and arrested a man Tuesday in the 1300-block of London Rd. after yet another fraudulent purchase.
The COPPS Unit later executed a search warrant in the 800-block of Colborne Rd. and arrested two female occupants.
Police say $2,700 worth of counterfeit U.S. money in various denominations and stages of production was seized.
Robert John Weeke, 23, is charged with making counterfeit money, possessing counterfeit money, four counts of uttering counterfeit money, three counts of fraud under $5,000 and attempted fraud. He was being held pending a bail hearing.
Larissa Little, 23, and Justine DeMelo, 24, are both charged with making and possessing counterfeit money. They have been released on promises to appear.
