Lambton College is nearing the final design stage for its Nova Chemicals Health & Research Centre and Athletics & Fitness Complex.
The new campus buildings are a major part of the college's $45-million Envision Tomorrow Capital Campaign. About 50 people attended an information session at the college Friday afternoon where London-based Architects Tillman Ruth Robinson Inc. presented detailed architectural plans for a new combined structure that will be attached to the existing north building on campus. A 3D video highlighted the open floor concept of a new multi-purpose gym, atrium space, outside patio, and nursing simulation lab classrooms. Architect McMichael Ruth says they focused on windows and open layouts to draw people into the building. "Whether you're driving by or coming off the 402 or just walking into the building, it will create a whole new life into the campus," says Ruth.
"I think putting on display what's happening within, and really showing off the amazing programs that are already at the campus, and that are going to further with this new building, is really going to be incredible for both people who don't know what's happening as well as the students that are in the building." Lambton College President Judith Morris says it's very exciting seeing these plans since the last new building built on campus was in 1972. She says it will completely change the college landscape as seen from Modeland Rd. "These buildings are sustainable, they are student-centered and architecturally wonderful." A ground-breaking ceremony for the 100,000 sq. ft. building is to take place in the spring with construction in September.
