Suicide Prevention Drop-in Centre

A local non-profit organization wants to open a 24-7 drop-in centre to provide round-the-clock assistance to those contemplating suicide. Teresa Ingles is CEO of The Deker Bauer Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She says they continue their fundraising drive to try to establish a centre in a home-style environment. "A lot of these people don't feel that they need to go to the hospital, or they don't want to go to the hospital, so this might give them another option," says Ingles.

"If they don't want to go to a hospital, they can come see us, get assessed, then that's when the councillors that are there will determine whether they do need to be at the hospital or whether they're just having a rough day." The Foundation is hosting a New Year's masquerade ball at the Holiday Inn with live music and and a silent auction that includes a hockey stick signed by all the Toronto Maple Leafs players.
