Lambton Alcohol Consumption Above Average

Lambton Public Health says adults in Lambton County are slightly above the provincial average for alcohol consumption. It's recommended women consume no more than 10 drinks a week and less than two a day. Males, 15 drinks a week and no more than three drinks a day. Health Promoter Terry Easterby says continuous drinking can increase the risk of short and long-term alcohol-related harm. "Heavy drinking for a female is four or more drinks on an occasion and for males it's five or more drinks. I think the problem is that when we drink too much, too quickly, we can cause some problems," says Easterby.

"You know there's drinking games, there's celebrations, it's easy to lose track of how many drinks we've had." Consequences of drinking can lead to serious risks including alcohol poisoning, violence, unprotected sex, and long-term health effects such as liver cirrhosis, heart problems, and cancer.
