The community paid its respects Monday to former Point Edward Mayor Dick Kirkland. Nearly 100 people lined Michigan Ave. around the noon hour as a funeral procession made its way from the Bluewater Bridge towards the Point Edward fire station. Local firefighters and OPP officers saluted the former mayor as the hearse passed by.
Attendees said there was a great turnout for the 11am funeral, held at the Smith Funeral Home on London Line.
Sarnia City Hall has honoured Kirkland's passing by lowering the flag to half mast. The long-time municipal politician passed away last week at age 83.
