Sarnia-Lambton's Conservative MPP says the laying of criminal charges against two top aides to former premier Dalton McGuinty is a disgrace.
Bob Bailey says it undermines the credibility of the office of the premier.
David Livingston, McGuinty's former chief of staff, and Laura Miller, the deputy chief who went on to work in the office of British Columbia Premier Christy Clark, are each charged with breach of trust, mischief in relation to data and misuse of a computer system to commit the offence of mischief.
The charges stem from the deletion of thousands of government emails related to the Liberals' decision to cancel two gas plants prior to the 2011 election, which the auditor general found will cost ratepayers up to $1.1-billion.
Bailey says even though she wasn't premier at the time, Kathleen Wynne should still be held accountable.
"They're trying to give plausible deniability, you know that was his people, not my people," says Bailey. "Let's face it, Queen's Park's a pretty small space, everyone knows each other there, Premier Wynne, at the time, sat at the cabinet table. She was involved in the cancellation of the gas plants."
The cancelled Mississauga plant was relocated to St. Clair Township near the Lambton Generating Station site.
