After a decade of supporting local students, the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce Legacy Scholarship Awards for family medicine residents are coming to an end.
The last awards presentation took place at the chamber office on Christina St. Wednesday morning.
Dr. Amanda Rosenblum and Dr. Mark Mousseau each received $3,000 scholarships.
Chairman of the Physicians Task Force Ron Prior says all scholarship winners over the years have contributed to community healthcare.
"We have a small town feel in the City of Sarnia," says Prior. "A lot of residents really want to see their own people back, their own students. It's nice for them when they go to the doctor, that this doctor grew up in town, knows all about town."
Dr. Rosenblum could not attend the presentation, however, Dr. Mousseau thanks the Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity.
He plans to return to Sarnia as a general practitioner after his studies.
"I think the support I get from the chamber is incredible and it helps me continue my education, 10 courses that are quite costly each time," says Mousseau. "It means the world to me to have that support."
It's hoped the scholarship program can continue in the future with a new sponsorship.
