Local CF Volunteer To Be Honoured

The Cystic Fibrosis Society of Sarnia-Lambton has partnered with the Sarnia Sting for a fundraiser at Friday's game against the Windsor Spitfires.

Part of all ticket sales and Chuck A Puck proceeds will support the society's Shine O Rama campaign.

Spokesperson Kristin Douglas says they're also presenting local volunteer Tara Bourque with the provincial Michelle Breakwell Award. It's given to someone living with CF who has left a remarkable impact on the community.

Douglas says Bourque helped organize the Shine O Rama campaign and has recruited over 600 new organ donors over the past three years.

"She has been not only a leader in Sarnia, but across Canada. She speaks at other Shine O Rama campaigns and universities. She definitely has a fearless attitude in sharing her story," says Douglas.

Douglas expects Sarnia's Shine O Rama fundraiser to surpass the $1,500 goal. The money supports CF research and awareness.

She says those diagnosed with CF only lived an average of four years back in the 1960's, that's since improved to nearly 50 years.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestines.
