Real Estate Sales Poised To Hit $400-Million

Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales are poised to hit $400-million for the first time ever.

Through 11 months this year, dollar volume has reached $395-million, with ten-year record highs being set in six of the months including November.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says 145 properties worth $31-million sold last month, up 27 per cent compared to November 2014.

She says the increase is due in part to strong sales in the mid-to-upper price range the past six months.

"The $100,000 to $200,000 range seems to be pretty much the same as it has been in previous years but it's that mid to upper range that is more active," says Baker. "Rates are still good and people are taking advantage of that."

Baker expects 2016 will be another strong year with a number of new homes planned for construction in the spring.

There are currently 680 active listings in the MLS system with 320 of those being single family homes.

The average sale price so far this year is $219,000, up slightly from $218,000 last year.
