Christmas Hamper Campaign Kicks Off

The 34th annual Operation Christmas Tree officially kicked off in Corunna Thursday with a poor boy luncheon.

President Lorne Powell says they were expecting to raise about $1,000 for Christmas hampers to help families in need.

He says each year, about 130 families receive hampers containing non-perishable food items, and toys if the family has children.

About 100 people attended Thursday's kick-off event at the Royal Canadian Legion on Albert St. in Corunna.

Non-perishable food, cash or toy donations can be dropped off at the OPP detachment on Lyndoch St. until December 18.
