The Governor General invested 45 recipients into the Order of Canada Wednesday morning including Sarnia-born former astronaut Chris Hadfield.
Retired Colonel Hadfield is one of 12 bestowed the honour of Officer of the Order of Canada.
Others of note include former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney and musicians Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo.
Wednesday's ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa also saw 33 people invested as members of the order.
Hadfield flew on three missions to space and served as chief capsule communicator for 25 space shuttle missions. In 2012, he became the first Canadian to command the International Space Station and captivated the world by sharing the wonders of space flight via social media.
The Order of Canada was created in 1967, Canada's centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to country.
Since its creation, more than 6,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the order.
