Sting Overcome Attack In OT

Nikita Korostelev scored in a wild 3 on 3 overtime period as the Sarnia Sting overcame the Attack 4-3 Wednesday in Owen Sound.

Korostelev pounced on an Owen Sound turnover and the bouncing puck on his attempted deke went through the legs of Attack goaltender Michael McNiven.

After a scoreless first period the teams each scored twice in the second and traded goals in the third.

The Sting took the lead for the first time in the game, 3-2, two minutes into the final period on Patrick White's wrist shot to the top corner.

The Attack tied the game again less than three minutes later when Jaden Lindo beat rookie netminder Aidan Hughes on the power play.

The 16-year-old Hughes recorded his first OHL win in just his third start. The 6'3" 240 lb goaltender took the net in place of the injured Justin Fazio with Shayne Battler dressed as the backup.

Troy Lajeunesse scored his team leading eighth goal on a pretty feed from Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Zacha fired home his sixth of the year for the other Sting marker.

Defenceman Josh Jacobs had a strong game, recording an assist and being named the game's first star.

Sarnia outshot the Attack 34-25 and had all four shots in the overtime.

With the win, the Sting (9-5-1) snap a two game losing skid and return home to face Flint Friday night and Saginaw Sunday night.
