Automated Vehicles Present Local Opportunity

Sarnia-Lambton could play a role in the research or manufacturing aspect of automated vehicles.

Beginning next year, Ontario will become the first province in Canada to test the technology on-road.

Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership GM George Mallay says while it's still in the early stages, we have the expertise here.

The government says there are nearly 100 companies and institutions involved in the automated car industry in Ontario.

They're providing nearly $3-million in funding for the initiative.

It's estimated 75 per cent of vehicles on the road will be autonomous by the year 2040.
