Transit Subsidy For Village Residents To Be Debated

Point Edward is debating whether to discontinue its transit subsidy program.

CAO Jim Burns says several years ago, the province provided a one-time grant that allowed them to purchase Sarnia Transit tickets at full price, then sell them to village residents at half price in an attempt to increase ridership.

The grant money has run out and it's going to cost the village to continue to subsidize riders.

Public input is being sought at a special meeting on Tuesday at 5pm at the Municipal Office.

Burns stresses they're not cancelling Sarnia Transit service but rather looking at discontinuing the ticket subsidy.
