City Council Meets Today

Sarnia council will discuss budget strategies for WSIB claims at its meeting later today.

Council's special regular meeting begins at 3:30pm.

It's recommended council approve a strategy that borrows from capital reserves to cover a projected $2.4-million shortfall in WSIB claims.

Regulation was expanded in 2014 to include six additional cancers presumed to be work-related for firefighters.

The Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre could have a new name by May of next year. If authorization is granted, the expression of interest process for naming rights would begin next month.

The implementation of a Fats, Oils and Grease (F.O.G) management program could control the amount of grease accumulating in wastewater treatment plants.

Staff recommend cancelling the Brownfield program due to lack of available funding.

Action will also be taken on Councillor Anne-Marie Gillis's request to reconsider council's decision regarding heritage designation at 166 Brock Street S.
