Sexual Assault Centre Gets Base Funding Increase

The Executive Director of the Sarnia-Lambton Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre is thrilled the Ontario government is increasing their base funding.

Funding for all 42 centres across the province is being boosted by $1.75-million a year.

Michelle Batty says the local centre is getting an additional $21,000 annually that will support services including the crisis hotline and sexual violence education.

"It has been a hard and long struggle over the years with insufficient funding," says Batty. "Receiving a commitment from our government to assist us in the work we do is absolutely fabulous."

Batty says the centre typically sees 100 clients per month for individual counselling.

The 24-hour crisis line receives 300 calls a year.
