Sarnia council has decided Cathcart Blvd. will not be a project for bike lanes as previously indicated in the Transportation Master Plan.
In a delegation to council Monday, two Cathcart residents voiced their concerns on the proposal and suggested the boulevard be left the way it is now.
Councillor Dave Boushy raised a motion against staff recommendations and councillors voted unanimously to not implement bike lanes in the area.
Speaker and Cathcart resident Barb Seed says she's happy with council's decision.
"Cathcart is a boulevard and it is the widest street in the whole city," says Seed. "It technically is a two-lane road and it functions. There's room for everybody, joggers, cyclists, parked cars and moving cars. There's room for us all and we're working happily together."
City council's decision was followed by a round of applause from a large public crowd in attendance.
Staff originally recommended council support bike lanes on Cathcart Blvd. as a link between the Howard Watson Nature Trail and Canatara Park.
