Safety Urged During St. Clair River Float Down

The St. Clair River will be temporarily restricted to vessel traffic on Sunday, August 16, for the annual unsanctioned Port Huron Float Down event.

Transport Canada will close off a portion of the river from under the Blue Water Bridge to the upper end of Stag Island from 12-8pm.

Mike Brown with the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Programs Branch will be on duty monitoring the event. He says local federal, provincial, and municipal authorities will be present to assist with safety and security issues.

Brown advises floaters to avoid alcohol, wear a life jacket, and let someone know where they are throughout the day.

Starting at 1pm, thousands of people will use inflatable rafts, tubes and other devices to float from Lighthouse Beach in Port Huron to Chrysler Beach in Marysville.
