City Council To Consider Offer For Bayside Mall

The city has met with an out-of-town group that has offered to buy the Bayside Mall pending court approval August 26.

Mayor Mike Bradley, County Warden Bev MacDougall and city staff met Monday with the principal of the unnamed group for a tour of the downtown facility.

Mayor Bradley says the group owns a number of significant properties in other communities, primarily in downtowns.

Mayor Bradley says he can't elaborate at this time on the group's plans for the mall.

At a special meeting tentatively called for August 20, city council will be updated and decide whether to withdraw its court intervention in the potential sale.

The city no longer holds any veto but has a say in the sale as owners of the land and is owed over a million dollars in outstanding taxes.

The latest purchase offer comes after the court-appointed receiver relisted the mall building for $1.5-million.
