Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Sarnia-Lambton for Saturday and Sunday.
The national weather agency says temperatures will peak in the 30 C to 32 C degree range and humidex values will be near 40 C during the afternoon hours.
Saturday night will be a very warm night with overnight minimum temperatures in the 20 C to 23 C degree range.
Forecasters say it may be slightly cooler near the shores of the Great Lakes.
Temperatures are not expected to be as warm Monday with highs in the upper 20's.
While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for older adults, infants and young children and people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses. People who work or exercise in the heat, those without access to air conditioning and homeless people are also at risk. Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.
Lambton Public Health has issued a Heat Alert. Information and a list of cooling centres can be found at lambtonhealth.on.ca
