Mayor Encouraged LGS Being Preserved

The mayor of St. Clair Township is encouraged Ontario Power Generation is not closing the doors for good at Lambton Generating Station.

OPG announced Wednesday it's keeping about 25 staff on hand at the idle Courtright area power plant because of possible future conversion to another fuel.

There is a natural gas supply close at hand that could be tapped.

Mayor Steve Arnold says it's positive news.

OPG also announced that Nanticoke is closing.

LGS and Nanticoke both stopped burning coal in 2013 as part of the provincial government's strategy to combat climate change.

Both sites have qualified to bid on solar projects through the Independent Electricity System Operator.
