Lambton County's Warden says innovation is needed to address a lack of affordable housing locally.
Affordable housing is one item being revisited under a review of the 1998 County Official Plan which must be dealt with at five year intervals to ensure it's still relevant to area demographics.
Warden Bev MacDougall says it's difficult to repair existing units and build new housing when there's insufficient upper tier government funding.
MacDougall continues to hear about the lack of low-income housing and its effect on acute bed occupancy rates at Bluewater Health.
She says the county may have to think "outside the box" and form partnerships or co-operative agreements to try to increase affordable housing locally.
