County To Debate Funding For High Speed Internet

Lambton County Council will make a decision on providing $1-million towards the SWIFT project to provide rural areas with highspeed internet during its meeting Wednesday.

County Corporate Manager of Information Technology Robert Wilks says over 80 people voiced their concern over lack of reliable highspeed internet during a public meeting June 23.

He says this is just a small part of what is a very big project.

Wilks says the funding provided by council would be used to procure higher tier funding.

He says the goal is to have the have last person connected by 2040, but expects it to be sooner as existing fibre throughout the county should help speed up the project.
