Lambton County Council is setting aside $1-million over five years for the SWIFT project to support fibre-based internet service in both rural and urban areas.
Warden Bev MacDougall says they agreed Wednesday to allocate the funding, but more information on the business and financial plans are needed before a final decision is made.

Over $200,000 will be transferred into reserves each year, and will go towards the project's so-called last mile.
The next step is for SWIFT to meet with local independent providers and decide how their interests can also be met in the project.
