Asking for Better Workplace Death Accountability

United Steelworkers are asking for Sarnia City Council's support on better enforcing the Criminal Code Westray amendments for workplace deaths.

Mayor Mike Bradley says they want employers to be held accountable for criminally negligent actions.

Between 1993 and 2011, there were a total of 17-thousand workplace deaths in Canada, an average of 900 every year.

Sudbury City Council was the first of many councils across the country to endorse these recommendations last year.

City council begins it's meeting at 3:30 Monday afternoon.
