Mayor Wants Hydro One Privatization Delayed

Sarnia's mayor wants Ontario's liberal government to delay selling off 60 per cent of Hydro One to allow full public hearings on the controversial move.

Mike Bradley is asking city council to formally ask the province to gather community, citizen, business, labour and First Nations input.

He says it's the biggest privatization of a public asset by the Ontario government in its history and debate is being limited in an attempt to have the enabling legislation passed by early June.

Mayor Bradley says there is no mandate from the last provincial election to proceed with the privatization and significant concerns have been raised about public oversight of the utility and accountability.

City council meets next Monday.
