A 31-year old man faces a long list of charges after a brief stand-off with Sarnia police Wednesday. A member of the COPPS Unit stopped the man riding his bike around 1pm in the Wellington and Mitton Streets area. Police say the man gave a false name and while reaching into his backpack the officer spotted what he believed to be a syringe with methamphetamine. As the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, he fled on foot and allegedly threatened the officer with a knife. Police say the man locked himself inside the Cashline Loans store on Mitton St. S. and threatened to harm himself. A man inside the business was safely removed after which police say the man with the knife was stunned with a taser and arrested. He has been charged with public mischief, forcible confinement, possession of a controlled substance, resisting a police officer, uttering threats, breaching his probation and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The man was in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
