96 businesses participated in the January EmployerOne Survey.

The Sarnia Lambton Workforce Development Board says the most hirings this year are projected to be in the service industry.

The survey found that 39 per cent of participating businesses who hired last year had a difficult time filling carpentry, construction manager, early childhood educator and engineering positions.

The findings also suggested that employers need to expand their search mechanisms for qualified employees, rather than rely on personal contacts.
