Arena Management Study Finalized

The third and final public meeting regarding Sarnia's Arena Management Study will be held Tuesday night.

Parks and Rec Director Beth Gignac says specific recommendations surrounding arena development, closures, accessibility, and finances will be addressed.

City-hired consultants have recommended Germain Arena be closed at a surprising low cost savings of $118,000 dollars annually.

City staff is projecting a $657,000 deficit this year if all six rinks continue to operate as planned.

The consultants say that Sarnia Arena should be revitalized instead of closed and Clearwater Arena replaced with a new twin-pad facility. They say adding a new rink on the site would not be cost-efficient.

Council will debate short and long-term solutions this spring after staff draws together a finalized Arena Management Study.
