Demolition Of Historic Building Underway

The St. Louis-based company decomissioning the Marysville Power Plant isn't ruling out imploding the 93-year-old building, but CDC President Randall Jostes admits it's a long shot.

Workers are now meticulously removing asbestos from the iconic St. Clair River landmark.

Right now Jostes says it will be a brick-by-brick demolition that is expected to last six months to a year. The land will then be cleaned up and the property marketed for development.

The plant stopped generating electricity in 2001.

Jostes says the 20-acre property features a natural deepwater dock, rail access, proximity to the Blue Water Bridge and connecting roadways as well as the St. Clair County International Airport.
