Cross Border Shopping Drops

The Retail Council of Canada says Canadians did less cross-border shopping this holiday season compared to previous years.

Canadian sales rose by about 5.6 per cent in the first two weeks of December, much to the relief of Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce President Rory Ring.

Ring says he believes they're starting to see more activity across the local economy, because of several factors including the low loonie.

On the last Saturday before Christmas, consumers spent 10 per cent more per transaction over last year.

The council also says the total dollar value was up by five per cent over 2013.
