Council Accepts Gilpin Funeral Chapel Rezoning

Sarnia Council has accepted a rezoning application from Gilpin Funeral Chapel Ltd., conditional to buffering the parking lot with trees to stop light invasion into residential properties.

Councillor Bev MacDougall brought forward the amendment to the original motion, which recommended the application for a funeral chapel at 608 Errol Rd. West in Sarnia's north end be approved.

Veteran councillors Anne-Marie Gillis and Dave Boushy voted against the motion and amendment . Boushy says it's the wrong fit for the community.

Gilpin Funeral Chapel Ltd. says the chapel will be staffed on a daily basis and that no bodies will be prepared there for interment or cremation at that site.
