The Sarnia Sting completed one of its best weeks in recent memory Sunday with a hard fought 4-3 win over the visiting Kingston Frontenacs.
Over the final week of November, the Sting has won five straight despite playing without injured defenceman Jakob Chychrun and suspended forward Pavel Zacha.
Playing its fourth game in five days, Sarnia opened up a 3-0 lead early in the second period but had to hold on for the win thanks to more solid goaltending by Taylor Dupuis.
A big shorthanded tally late in the second period orchestrated by recently acquired Stephen Pierog proved to be the game winner. Troy Lajeunesse finished off a two-on-one for his sixth of the season on a perfect feed from Pierog who had intercepted a pass in the neutral zone.
The Frontenacs at that point had scored two straight to cut the Sting's lead to 3-2 on goals by former Sting first rounder Ryan Kujawinski and Conor McGlynn.
Brandon Lindberg scored his ninth goal and fourth in four games to give the Sting a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game and Anthony DeAngelo fired home his seventh of the year to make it 2-0 after one period. Lindberg and DeAngelo each added assists. DeAngelo now leads all OHL defencemen in scoring with 27 points in 22 games.
Hayden Hodgson got the other Sting goal, his tenth, while the only goal of the third came off the stick of Sam Schutt with Kujawinski drawing an assist.
The Sting was outshot 38-25 overall and 13-3 in the third but Dupuis made key saves to secure the win for his tired squad.
Sarnia (13-11-1-1) is in second place in the West Division, four points ahead of Saginaw.
The Sting has another three games in three days next week starting Friday at home to North Bay, in Saginaw Saturday and back at the RBC Centre Sunday afternoon for the Teddy Bear Toss game against division leading Sault Ste. Marie.
