Walkerton training facility receives provincial funding

The province has contributed over $6 million to help develop a new training centre for skilled labourers in Walkerton.

The new training centre for LiUNA Local 1059 will be established in the East Ridge Business Park, with the $6,336,435 investment coming from the Ontario government's Skills Development Fund.

"I am excited for the province’s investment in Bruce County," said Luke Charbonneau, Warden of Bruce County in a release. "LiUNA Local 1059’s new Training Centre in Walkerton is essential in meeting our infrastructure goals. It will provide opportunities for Bruce County residents, while addressing our skilled labour needs."

The centre will recruit and train residents from Huron, Bruce, Grey and Perth Counties.

"“LiUNA’s state-of-the-art facility in the East Ridge Business Park in Walkerton will address the critical need for skilled trades in our region,” said Chris Peabody, Mayor of the Municipality of Brockton. “This anchor facility will create invaluable opportunities for local youth while fostering growth within our business community and strengthening our workforce."
