Over 40 charges laid in Owen Sound theft from vehicles investigation

Owen Sound police are reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times.

This is following a number of complaints about thefts from vehicles received by police over the last couple of days.

Police said six separate arrests have been made in connection to the investigation.

According to police, 42 charges have been laid against the suspects.

The charges include:

  • Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle (two counts)

  • Unauthorized use of a credit card (13 counts)

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (12 counts)

  • Fail to comply with probation order (8 counts)

  • Fail to comply with release order (three counts)

  • Fail to comply with undertaking (two counts)

  • Disguise with intent (one count)

  • Trespassing or prowling at night (one count)

Police said in each of the incidents the vehicle doors were left unlocked and valuable items were left in plain view.

The credit and debit cards stolen were then allegedly used at several businesses to make unauthorized businesses.

"These are crimes of opportunity which are preventable by simply ensuring that your vehicle doors are locked and valuables are not left inside, please lock your vehicles," said PC Robillard.
