Volunteers recognized in Arran-Elderslie

The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie presented volunteer service awards to 25 individuals and 17 organizations on Saturday, June 8 as part of its Family Fun Day to celebrate its 25th Anniversary.

A call for nominations was released in the spring, seeking individuals and organizations that have enhanced the social, cultural, and economic wellbeing of the community by making selfless contributions through volunteering.

“The number of nominations we received was overwhelming, but not surprising really. Arran-Elderslie is a very hands-on community of active caring volunteers that give freely of their time. I’m glad we were able to take the opportunity to applaud some inspirational members from our community.” said Mayor Steve Hammell.

The volunteer awards were presented as part of a Family Fun Day at the Community Centre Complex and the park. Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the Firefighters Yard Sale, Craft and Vendors Market, Touch a Truck, Kids games, breakfast and lunch.

“It was so great to see so many smiling faces enjoying our park and waterfront. I heard many requests for us to make this an annual event to bring the community together, and that is the best praise we could have hoped for,” said Chief Administrative Officer Sylvia Kirkwood.
