Rotary Huron Shore Run coming up

The annual Rotary Huron Shore Run is coming up on June 1.

The run is a community event with a goal of promoting physical fitness and active living while raising funds for several community initiatives. Chair of the run, Melanie Jackson, says the event will raise money this year for a few different things.

"We're fundraising money for Brightshores, as well as a couple community organizations. The Saugeen Shores Track Club, Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club, all the Rotary Clubs in Saugeen Shores and the Breakers Swim Team," Jackson shared.

Jackson notes that giving back to the community is a focal point of the run.

"Well we really wanna promote our local organizations and ensure that we're putting funds back in the community. Last year we raised over $50,000 for the Wellness and Addiction Treatment Centre that's being built in Owen Sound, and we're hoping to do at least that number this year," said Jackson.

The event features 5 km, 10 km or half marathon distances, or a 3km or 800m fun run for youth. Jackson also adds that they're also looking for help running the event.

"We're looking for volunteers, as well. So it's a great opportunity for people in high school that are looking for their community hours. You can register as a volunteer through the links, and you can pick your hours and what jobs you wanna do. So that's another option you can have if you're not interested in running or walking in the event," Jackson added.

Runners and walkers will meet on June 1 at the starting line on High Street in Southampton to traverse and follow the shoreline south towards Port Elgin.
