Applications open for Huron Clean Water Project

The Huron Clean Water Project is accepting applications to help fund water quality projects by local residents, landowners, and community groups.

There is $500,000 available to support projects for erosion control, clean water diversion, wellhead protection or decommissioning, wetland restoration and more.

The program is delivered on behalf of the county by the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA).

Up to 50 per cent of the costs of eligible projects can be awarded to successful applicants, and funding can be combined with other provincial and federal programs, as well as programs offered by other environmental organizations and local foundations.

“The total value of past Huron Clean Water projects is an astounding $14.5 million,” said Warden Glen McNeil. “These investments made by the County, community partners and community members demonstrate Huron’s commitment to being good stewards of our land and waterways now and in the future. Well done, to all involved in this important project.”

Since 2005, Huron County residents have completed nearly 4,000 stewardship projects, including the including decommissioning 113 liquid manure storages and 620 wells, upgrading another 435 wells, and aiding in 1,319 tree planting projects.

There's no deadline to apply, but funding is limited, so those interested are encouraged to check out the Huron Clean Water webpage or contact the local conservation authority.
