Stratford man wins $1 million

There's more than just peanuts in the bank account of Charles Schultz of Stratford.

He said yes to Encore, and walked away from the the OLG Prize Centre with a $1 million win from the January 5 Lotto Max draw.

“I went to check a few of my tickets at a near by store and when I got to the very last ticket, I noticed all the zeros pop up on the screen,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre to pick-up his winnings. “I checked again and then I went into shock!”

This is the first major win for Schultz, who always plays Encore.

“I called my son to tell him the great news, but he kept asking me if I was joking because I sounded so calm. But I was 100 percent in shock!” laughed Schultz.

Schultz is a retired skilled tradesperson, and he plans to use some of the money to help others out.

“I have always been a pretty helpful guy so now I can do more of that for more people I love, which is very meaningful to me. Also, I have always wanted a hybrid car, so I think I will treat myself to one.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Joe’s Variety on Ontario Street in Stratford.
