OPP kick off festive seatbelt campaign

OPP in Huron County says officers will be out in full force for the Easter long weekend.

Police officials said they will be specifically looking out for drivers not wearing seatbelts – but are reminding people to obey all rules of the road.

Last year in Huron County, three collisions were reported over the Easter weekend with property damage only and no injuries.

In 2023, over the four-day campaign, officers laid 30 seatbelt charges against drivers and passengers who placed themselves and all other passengers in their vehicles at risk.

Over 100 speeding charges and three stunt/racing charges were laid. Police said two drivers were charged with impaired driving and 51 other traffic-related charges were among the 218 offences Huron OPP officers held motorists accountable for over the long weekend.

"Please drive carefully as you navigate through the increased traffic flow on Ontario roadways," said Huron County OPP Community Safety Officer Craig Soldan. "Driving is a privilege, and everyone should do their part to ensure our roads are safe by driving sober, buckling up and always driving responsibly."

The Easter long weekend seatbelt campaign runs from March 29 to April 1.
