Local OPP officer honoured for efforts to combat impaired driving

A Perth County OPP officer has been honoured for their efforts to reduce impaired driving.

Constable Mike Garniss was honoured with an OPP Provincial Accolade Award for his "relentless, and unwavering commitment to stop impaired driving throughout Perth County," according to an OPP release.

Constable Garniss has been with Perth County OPP for over 6 years and was recognized for his efforts with Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs, traffic stops, and general patrol to reduce impaired driving.

In 2022, Constable Garniss laid 36 impaired driving charges, the most laid by an officer in West Region, and second in the province for OPP officers.

Accolade Awards are given out each year by the OPP recognizing exceptional achievements by officers.

"On January 9 we presented PC Mike Garniss with a Provincial Accolade Award for his commitment to public safety and the enforcement of impaired driving laws in Perth County. Congratulations on your achievements and being selected for this well-deserved recognition," said Staff Sergeant David Sinko, Perth County OPP Detachment.
