Nominations sought for local Women of Distinction awards

The Women of Distinction committee in North Perth is looking for nominations for Women in Leadership awards.

An event will be held on November 4 called Blue Jeans and Bling, at the Listowel Agricultural Hall starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 with a charitable receipt of $20. Age of majority is required.

People can nominate women who are leaders in the community until October 24. The event is run by the United Way Perth Huron.

“We have so many women who make contributions either through their work or through volunteerism. It’s time to ensure that we recognize them,” said Lee Anne Andriessen, chair of United Way Perth-Huron’s North Perth Community Committee. “It could be a professional, a businessperson or a volunteer. The main thing is this person has made a difference here in North Perth. It’s going to be a fun evening. Besides the awards, we have a couple of dancing demonstrations lined up, a silent auction, line dancing instruction and desserts and snacks. All proceeds will stay in North Perth to support our most vulnerable, so it’s a chance to not only have fun, but also make a difference in our community.”
