SIU investigating man's death following police chase

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 43-year-old man who fled from Guelph police on Saturday.

According to the SIU, at around 9:30 a.m. officers were called to check on the well-being of a man. The individual in question was also found to be wanted on a police warrant.

Guelph police located the man in a pickup truck in the area of Victoria Street and York Road.

The man reportedly fled in his truck and was pursued to the area of Victoria Road South and Clair Road East, where the truck collided with two civilian vehicles and rolled over several times.

The man was taken to hospital and was pronounced dead.

Three investigators, two forensic investigators, and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to this case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
