Walkerton tennis courts getting upgrade

Rehabilitation work has begun for Walkerton’s tennis courts and local groups are contributing to the cause.

The Municipality of Brockton began work on Monday to bring new fencing, lighting and resurfacing to the courts at Centennial Park. They will also be adding pickleball courts.

Brockton council approved using proceeds from the sale of the Armoury Building to fund the project, and money is also being raised by the Tennis and Pickleball Courts sub-Committee.

The project received a $25,000 donation from the local Rotary Club and a $6,200 gift from the local Kinsmen.

"The Walkerton Tennis and Pickleball Club are very grateful for the generous donation from The Walkerton Rotary Club and The Walkerton Kinsmen for the refurbishment of the courts," ” said Maureen Schmidt, a representative for the Tennis and Pickleball Committee. "We look forward to not only being able to play these sports safely in Walkerton but to host tournaments, lessons, scheduled times etc. for all ages."

The work is expected to be completed by the end of September.
