The Town of Hanover has lifted its fire ban.
Hanover's Fire Chief announced that as of June 15, the fire ban on open air burning and letting off fireworks within the Town of Hanover has been lifted after being enacted on June 7.
The ban was put in place due to very hot and dry conditions, but recent rainfall has made it safe once again to have open air burns.
Residents are reminded that all open air burning in the Town of Hanover requires a burn permit. Permits can be obtained by completing the application at https://hanover.burnpermits.com and paying the required fee. The application also includes all required regulations for open air burning.
The Hanover Fire Department reminds residents of the following open-air burning safety precautions: • Remove all vegetation and other material that could spread the fire prior to burning; • Never leave a fire unattended; • Keep your fire on a non-combustible surface and away from structures; • Have an adequate supply of water available to extinguish or control the fire; • Pay attention to wind conditions, smoke, and potential spark hazards; • Be cautious when disposing of smoking materials; and • Only burn permitted materials.
The Township of Georgian Bluffs also lifted the fire ban as of June 15. It was also enacted on June 7, but has now been lifted.
However, the Province of Ontario’s Fire Restriction remains in place, and is in effect in the area of the former Keppel Township in Georgian Bluffs north of Highway 21. This restriction bans campfires, brush fires or burn barrels, except in organized campgrounds and provincial parks.
