Mitchell McDonald's marks grand opening with fundraiser

Residents in Mitchell will get a chance to support Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) while checking out the town's first McDonald's restaurant.

The official opening of the new fast food outlet will take place Friday at 5878 Line 34.

Franchisees Rob and Michelle Reid are making the occasion by donating $1 from every Happy Meal sold from April 28 to May 9 to Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario. As president of the region's RMHC board of directors, Rob Reid sees the positive impact the home has. He says about 100 families from communities across Southwestern Ontario, including Mitchell, can stay close to their children during their hospital treatment.

Reid said the new McDonalds location will provide 60 new jobs in Mitchell, and he is actively hiring to expand his team. Reid started as a crew person with McDonald’s 42 years ago.

As well, a portion of proceeds from all menu items sold on McHappy Day, Wednesday, May 10, will also go to supporting RMHC and families with sick children.
