The Huron County OPP have unveiled a new collision reporting centre.
Huron County OPP says its aiming to "improve public safety and create efficiencies for drivers involved in property damage collisions with the introduction of a pilot Collision Reporting Centre."
The centre in Clinton officially opened on October 4th and allows drivers to more quickly and efficiently report crashes that involve minor property damage.
Collisions that result in no injuries and cause damage to property or vehicles can be reported to the centre rather than having police and local EMS crews respond to accident calls. Police say drivers involved in these minor collisions must exchange driver's license, vehicle and insurance information, and any collision where combined damage is estimated to be over $2,000 must be reported.
The centre is located at the Huron County OPP Detachment at 325 Albert Street in Clinton. Hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. excluding holidays.
"We are very pleased to offer a Collision Reporting Centre for our drivers in Huron County. We anticipate motorists will find the CRC to be very beneficial in terms of enhanced safety and added convenience," said Inspector Jason Younan, Detachment Commander, Huron County OPP.
Drivers are required to contact police and an officer will attend the scene if a collision involves:
- any injuries or death
- a driver failed to remain at the scene
- any vehicle carrying dangerous goods
- any suspected criminal activity (impaired driver, stolen vehicle)
- any driver that refuses to cooperate with the required exchange of information
- any municipal, provincial or federal vehicle
- damage to the highway property or private property
- a cyclist or pedestrian
- a vehicle is blocking a live lane(s) and can't be moved
- police attendance is requested at the scene by any involved driver(s).
