Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health’s Associate Medical Officer of Health said a continued multi-pronged approach is needed to control the transmission of COVID-19 in schools.
Dr. Matthew Tenenbaum told the Upper Grand District School Board controlling COVID-19 in schools needs multiple layers of protection, including masking, physical distancing, ventilation and vaccines.
Seven schools currently have cases of COVID-19, which prompted the dismissal of five classes or cohorts. Nearly 94% of all board staff who have completed their attestation are fully vaccinated.
Staff and trustees who are not fully vaccinated are required to complete regular rapid antigen testing twice weekly, with kits provided to staff, as well as complete a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination educational session.
