Swimmer dies in attempt to rescue teens at Kincardine pier

One person is dead after attempting to rescue two teenagers who were swept off a pier in Kincardine by a large wave.

The Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to the pier at the main beach on Thursday at around 8 p.m.

Emergency crews arrived to the scene to find that the teens had managed to return to shore, however, an identified adult had jumped into the water to help. The adult was eventually pulled unresponsive from the water and rushed to hospital.

Aleem Ramji, 38, of Toronto, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The south pier in Kincardine has been closed in the interest of safety and the public is asked to avoid the area.
